Michael R. Turner serves as vice chair of the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors and represents the Ashburn District. He was first elected to the board in November 2019, reelected in 2023, and selected by his fellow board members to serve as vice chair in 2025.

Turner also serves as vice chair of the board’s Transportation and Land Use Committee and represents Loudoun County on the National Capital Region Transportation Planning Board. He chairs the National Association of Counties’ Energy, Environment and Land Use Steering Committee, which addresses issues ranging from energy and environmental policy to land use, water resources and climate change. He also chairs the Virginia Association of Counties’ Environment, Energy and Land Use Committee.

A 1973 graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy, Turner is a retired Air Force command pilot with more than 3,500 flying hours as an air rescue helicopter and fighter pilot. A Desert Storm veteran, he served on the U.S. Central Command staff before and during the war. His final military assignment was on the Joint Staff at the Pentagon, where he worked in the Strategic Plans and Policy Directorate in support of the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff from 1993 to 1997.

Following his retirement from the Air Force in 1997, Turner worked primarily in nonprofit development, serving organizations focused on disaster relief, youth entrepreneurship, credit counseling, and support for military and veteran families. He also has experience in nonprofit legislative affairs and previously worked as a military commentator for several national news organizations.

Turner is a recipient of the Bronze Star Medal, Defense Superior Service Medal and Air Medal. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the U.S. Air Force Academy and an MBA from Chapman University. He lives in Lansdowne.
